BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla addressed the growing chatter around potential farewell matches for both Rohit and Virat Kohli, following their retirement from two formats.“They haven’t retired, have they?” Shukla said. “Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are both playing One-Dayers. They haven’t taken retirement, so why are you worrying about their farewell? Retirement from two formats, that’s a phase, but they are still playing ODIs. Don’t worry this much. BCCI policy is quite clear; we won’t ask anyone to retire. That decision rests with the players themselves, and we respect that.”The speculation about grand send-offs stems from memories of Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell at Wankhede Stadium in 2013. However, Shukla insisted it was premature. “Virat Kohli is very fit, and Rohit Sharma plays very well. Why are you worried about their farewell?” he added.Both stars bowed out of T20Is after lifting the 2024 World Cup in the West Indies, and soon after, retired from Test cricket in May 2025.
