Odisha to Recruit 44,000 Teachers in Three Years – News12 Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will recruit 44,433 teachers over the next three years, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Thursday, with nearly 15,000 appointments planned annually. The move, he said, will address vacancies and strengthen primary education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Chairing a review meeting of the School and Mass Education Department at Lok Seva Bhawan, Majhi said regularisation of schematic teachers and creation of new posts are priorities. Odisha currently has 45,292 primary schools and 1,60,319 sanctioned posts, but NEP norms require 39,366 more, while 5,067 will fall vacant by December 2025.
In a structural reform, the state will merge the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) and Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) into a single board for better governance.
Majhi also announced free textbooks for all Class 9 and 10 students, a benefit earlier limited to SC/ST students. To improve hostel health services, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives and health workers will be deployed.
The CM stressed teaching tribal children in their mother tongue, directing the establishment of a multilingual education centre in Koraput. He also highlighted digitisation of school approvals and strengthening of SCERT and textbook directorates.
