Odisha to Identify Crocodile Attack-Prone Zones, Erect Barricades for Public Safety – News12 Odisha

Bhubaneswar : Amid rising incidents of crocodile sightings and attacks across various rivers and water bodies in Odisha, the state government is set to implement a detailed plan to ensure public safety. The Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister, Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, announced on Wednesday that a master plan will soon be rolled out to address the growing threat.
As per the proposed plan, riverbank areas vulnerable to crocodile attacks will be identified and officially marked as ‘black spots.’ These locations will feature clear warning signboards, and barricades will be installed to prevent close contact between people and potentially dangerous reptiles.
The minister emphasized that the government is particularly focused on zones where crocodile activity is more frequent. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of the public. Special precautions will be taken in high-risk areas,” said Minister Khuntia.
The forest department’s initiative aims to proactively manage human-wildlife conflict and reduce the likelihood of crocodile-related accidents, particularly during the monsoon season when sightings tend to increase.
