Odisha Govt Plans Major Push for Inter-State River Linking Projects – News12 Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has taken a major step towards inter-state river linking by preparing a blueprint for canal construction and related infrastructure. Six major river-linking projects are planned from 2025-26 to 2029-30 with an estimated cost of ₹1,800 crore. The aim is to tackle water scarcity, ensure irrigation, recharge 150 water bodies, and supply drinking water even during dry seasons.

Among the key projects are the Katra-Subarnarekha canal link, Hiradharabati barrage–Chilika lake connection, Bahuda–Rushikulya integration, and Bansadhara–Rushikulya link. Others include the Ang–Suktel Garland project and Telengiri–Upper Kolab linkage. These projects will not only support irrigation across thousands of hectares but also revive water bodies and reduce drought-prone conditions. Authorities confirm that all works will align with the state’s water policy to enhance long-term water sustainability and resilience.
