Odisha Congress Calls Statewide Bandh Over Student’s Death – News12 Odisha

Bhubaneswar : The Odisha Congress, backed by several Opposition parties, has called for a statewide bandh on Thursday to protest the alleged inaction of the state government in the case of a 20-year-old student who died after self-immolation. The protest demands justice for the victim and accountability from top officials.
The victim, a second-year Integrated B.Ed student at Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Balasore, suffered 95% burns after setting herself on fire on Saturday. She died on Monday at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, sparking outrage and condemnation across Odisha.
Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhakta Charan Das announced the bandh during a press conference on Tuesday, stating it is supported by seven parties, including Left groups. He emphasized that the protest transcends politics and is about ensuring the safety of all students.
Congress has demanded the resignation of the Education Minister, local MLA, and MP. All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba also called for President’s Rule in the state and urged people to support the peaceful protest.
