Odisha Boosts Silver Filigree Craft with Rs 10-Crore Facility in Cuttack – News12 Odisha

Bhubaneswar : In a bid to preserve and promote Odisha’s traditional silver filigree (Tarakasi) craftsmanship, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida today laid the foundation stone for a Common Facility Center (CFC) at the Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) premises. The initiative, with an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore, aims to empower artisans and promote Tarakasi on a global platform.
Speaking at the event, Parida highlighted the international recognition of Cuttack’s silver filigree and noted that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised it during a recent foreign visit. She emphasized the government’s commitment to both preserving and modernizing the craft to meet contemporary tastes.
The CFC will provide artisans with access to modern tools, design training, and skill development, helping them maintain traditional quality while increasing production.
Local MLAs Sofia Firdous and Prakash Chandra Sethi, present as guests of honour, stressed the importance of preserving cultural heritage. District Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde presided over the event and assured continued support for artisan development in the region.
