Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana Boosting Dairy Sector in Odisha – News12 Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja reviewed the implementation of the Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana (MKY), a flagship scheme of the Odisha government aimed at enhancing milk production and strengthening the financial base of farmers engaged in cattle rearing.
Launched by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in September 2024, the scheme carries a five-year budget of Rs 1,423.47 crore and is structured into three components—Additional Subsidy Scheme for Cow Husbandry, Cattle Industrialisation Development Scheme, and Commercial Dairy Farms.
As per the review, during FY 2024-25, 35,494 applications were received under the scheme. Of these, 2,500 projects were sanctioned, with 1,727 completed and subsidies worth Rs 24.5 crore disbursed. In FY 2025-26, 23,929 applications were filed, leading to 4,184 sanctions and 596 project completions, supported by subsidies of Rs 8.36 crore.
The scheme has already enhanced milk production in Odisha, with 9,170 buffaloes distributed, generating 10,080 litres daily. Ahuja underlined the importance of expert evaluation by Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) to ensure proper guidance, sustainability, and long-term empowerment of farmers.
Officials stressed timely project completion and wider awareness to maximise benefits of the ambitious scheme.
