Team India has moved to third place in the ICC World Test Championships (WTC) points table after securing a thrilling six-run victory against England at The Oval, leveling the series 2-2. The win on August 4 has earned India 12 crucial points, bringing their total to 28 points with a percentage of 46.67 in the ongoing WTC 2027 cycle.India’s position improvement came at the expense of England, who dropped to fourth place with 26 points and a 43.33 percentage. England’s standing was affected by a two-point penalty for slow over rate during the Lord’s Test.

Australia maintains its dominance at the top of the standings, winning all three matches played in the current cycle. Sri Lanka holds second place with one victory and one draw, achieving a 66.67 percentage.West Indies, currently in sixth place, has yet to secure any points. South Africa, New Zealand, and Pakistan follow, having not played any matches in this cycle. Bangladesh occupies the fifth position with four points and a 16.67 percentage.The match at The Oval saw India struggling initially, being reduced to 153/6 after England chose to bowl. Karun Nair’s 57 runs and Washington Sundar’s 26 runs formed a crucial 58-run partnership, helping India reach 224 runs. Gus Atkinson claimed a five-wicket haul, while Josh Tongue took three wickets.England’s first innings yielded 247 runs, despite a strong 92-run opening partnership between Zak Crawley (64) and Ben Duckett (43). Harry Brook contributed 53 runs, but Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna’s four wickets each restricted England’s lead to 23 runs.India’s second innings featured impressive performances from Yashasvi Jaiswal (118), Akash Deep (66), Ravindra Jadeja (53), and Washington Sundar (53). A notable last-wicket partnership between Sundar and Krishna helped India post 396 runs, setting England a target of 374.The chase began with England stumbling to 106/3 before Harry Brook (111) and Joe Root (105) formed a commanding 195-run partnership for the fourth wicket. England appeared in control at 317/4 on day four.However, Siraj’s five wickets and Krishna’s four wickets in the final stages proved decisive. England fell short by six runs, getting dismissed for 367 runs, resulting in a series draw that reflected the competitive nature of both teams.
