Hirakud Dam Authorities Close Four More Gates as Water Level Drops – News12 Odisha

Bhubaneswar : The Hirakud Dam authorities in Sambalpur have closed four more sluice gates as the water level in the reservoir continues to decline significantly. Currently, floodwater is being released through 14 gates—nine on the left and five on the right.

As per official sources, the reservoir’s water level now stands at 612.52 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 1.78 lakh cusecs of water per second, while the outflow is considerably higher at 3.11 lakh cusecs per second. The excess discharge is part of a precautionary measure to reduce flood risks and ensure the safety of the dam infrastructure.

Although the inflow has dropped, authorities are maintaining a high outflow to manage potential flood threats in the downstream areas.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi conducted an aerial survey today of flood-affected regions in northern Odisha. Following the assessment, he confirmed that 81 villages across three districts have been impacted by the recent flooding.

The government is closely monitoring the situation, with steps being taken to ensure the safety of residents and effective flood management across affected regions.
