CM Majhi seeks higher rice procurement target from Centre – News12 Odisha

Bhubaneswar : Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi met Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Wednesday, requesting an increased rice procurement target for the upcoming Kharif season, citing an anticipated surplus crop in the state.

Sharing details on platform X, CM Majhi said he also urged the Centre to speed up monthly rice lifting by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to ensure smooth stock clearance from state godowns.

Highlighting Odisha’s proactive agri-policies, Majhi said the state is promoting millets, expanding storage infrastructure, and working to boost food security and farmer welfare.

Odisha expects to produce 93 LMT of paddy this year, yielding around 63 LMT of rice—far above its 27 LMT consumption need.

The state has expressed concern over the slow FCI procurement pace and is seeking faster and higher lifting to support farmers during the harvest season.
