Indian chess prodigy Divya Deshmukh, aged 19, has secured the FIDE Women’s World Cup title by defeating India’s top-ranked player Koneru Humpy in the rapid tiebreaks of the final in Batumi, Georgia.This victory holds special significance as it earned Divya her final Grandmaster norm, making her the fourth Indian woman to achieve the prestigious GM title. Divya successfully capitalised on these errors to secure the championship title.Divya’s tournament performance was notable as she entered without being considered a top favourite. She consistently demonstrated strong attacking play and thorough preparation against higher-ranked opponents.
