Chelsea have allocated $15.5 million (£11.4m) in Club World Cup bonuses to be distributed among players, with a portion being donated to the family of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva. The decision came after Chelsea’s victory in FIFA’s expanded tournament, where they defeated Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in July. The bonus fund will be distributed equally among the players who represented Enzo Maresca’s side during the tournament. Each portion amounts to more than $500,000.The decision to include a payment to Jota’s family was made jointly between the club and players. This gesture follows the passing of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who played for Portuguese club Penafiel, in the Spanish province of Zamora on July 3, ten days before Chelsea’s Club World Cup final victory.Liverpool Football Club has undertaken several initiatives to honour Jota’s memory. The club has designated a permanent tribute to the Portuguese forward, who scored 65 goals in 182 appearances during his tenure at Liverpool. For the 2025-26 season, Liverpool players will wear a ‘Forever 20’ emblem on their shirts and stadium jackets. This tribute acknowledges Jota’s significant contribution to the club since his arrival from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020.The LFC Foundation, Liverpool’s official charity, will launch a grassroots football program in honour of the Portugal international. This initiative aims to continue Jota’s legacy through community engagement and youth development.Liverpool has planned additional commemorative gestures for their first Premier League game of the season against Bournemouth at Anfield. These include a special fan mosaic and a minute’s silence to remember the forward.
