The accused teenager was detained soon after the incident, while the victim, Nayan Satani, succumbed to his injuries late Tuesday night. Police clarified that both the attacker and the victim were students of Class 10, contradicting state education minister Praful Pansheriya’s earlier claim that the attacker was a Class 9 student. “A Class 10 student stabbed his classmate at Seventh-Day Adventist School yesterday. The victim died during treatment in the night. Police have registered an FIR and detained the juvenile accused,” said Joint Commissioner of Police Jaipal Singh Rathore. On Wednesday morning, hundreds of people—including family members of the victim, parents of other students, and members of the Sindhi community—stormed the school premises, demanding strict action against the administration. The protest soon turned violent, with mobs vandalising school buses, two-wheelers, and four-wheelers parked on campus, and even assaulting school staff, police said. The agitation spilled onto the streets, as protesters staged a sit-in, blocked traffic, and raised slogans against police and the school authorities. The incident also took a communal turn, with tensions rising after it emerged that the accused belonged to a minority community while the victim was a Sindhi. “We demand justice. We have lost our child today. Tomorrow it could be someone else’s kid. Unless strict action is taken, such incidents will keep happening,” said a relative of the victim. Local MLA Amul Bhatt appealed for calm, urging the mob to submit their demands peacefully and allow police to act. Meanwhile, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Sharad Singhal said the investigation has been handed over to the crime branch after protesters demanded so. Police are also verifying parents’ claims that six to seven others assisted the accused in the crime and that the school administration attempted to destroy evidence by summoning a water tanker to wash away bloodstains. “If involvement of other individuals is found, we will take strict action,” Singhal said.Investigations have revealed that Khokhra police delayed summoning forensic experts for nearly 12 hours after the incident, leading to the destruction of crucial evidence.A senior crime branch officer said, “Khokhra police failed to call forensic experts for almost 12 hours to examine the crime scene. Even before that, the school authorities summoned a water tanker and washed away bloodstains. This amounts to criminal negligence.”
